Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom, with funding from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board and Farm Credit Mid-America, hosted three successful pre-service teacher workshops this fall. Workshops were located at Murray State University, University of Kentucky, and Madisonville Community College with more than 50 students participating.
During the workshop, Kentucky aligned lessons and sponsored activities were presented, with a list of modifications that can implemented so lessons can be used in any K-12 classroom. Each lesson also had a strong agriculture and/or environmental connection. Each participant received a binder and flash drive containing all the lessons plus several hands-on activities that be immediately used in the classroom.
Members of the University of Kentucky's Agriculture Education program used the resources they received in a classroom visit just this past month.
Many thanks to the Kentucky Pork Producers Association, the Kentucky Corn Growers Association, the Kentucky Soybean Board, and the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts, Agribusiness Association of Kentucky for providing the lessons and activities that were distributed. Appreciate also goes out to the schools and adminstration that hosted and promoted the workshops.
KyAEC plans to host three more workshops in Spring 2017. If you know of a school that would benefit from this workshop, please contact Rachel Wilson at rachel@teachkyag.org.
