Crittenden County Teachers Learn How to Integrate Agriculture in their Lessons

Nearly 100 Crittenden County teachers participated in a Kentucky Farm Bureau teacher workshop on Monday, February, 17, during their in-service day. The teachers received resources and ideas to integrate STEM, ELA, Social Studies, and Practical Living lessons with an agriculture twist in their classrooms, heard from Kentucky artist and author Mitchell Tolle, and enjoyed a great lunch.

Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom participated to provide lessons for middle and high school teachers. Rachel Wilson, a Hardin County agriculture teacher and KyAEC education coordinator, shared some engaging activities, such as Cash Cow, The Water Cycle Game, Journey 2050, Bushels or Bust, and showed how they can use Ky Food and Farm Files for research and reading lessons.

Darleen Horton, a Kentucky teacher and winner of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, shared many activities from the Kentucky Ready Set Grow program that was released last year. All participating teachers received a school garden guide and curriculum booklet.

Thank you Kentucky Farm Bureau and Crittenden County Farm Bureau for providing this workshop. Together, we are growing ag literacy!
