Kentucky Agriculture Poster and Essay Contest
2019 Theme - Kentucky Farms: Growing Solutions for a Growing World
Students in grades K-12 may submit a poster or essay. A winner in each category and grade is awarded $100. Deadline is March 22.
The Farm as an Ecosystem
Grades 3-8, HS Enrichment
Students will learn how a farm is an ecosystem, identify the parts of the farm ecosystem and how they interact and depend on one another, identify the producers and consumers in a farm ecosystem, model the food chain/food web within a farm ecosystem, learn how changes affect the farm ecosystem and availability of food, identify the natural resources in a farm ecosystem and ways to protect them, and understand the size of their personal ecosystem.

Grades 4, MS/HS Enrichment
Students will learn how topographic, geologic, and natural resource availability affect agriculture production in the Commonwealth.
Reading and Media Comprehension: Kentucky Food and Farm Files includes 250+ feature articles and profiles about subjects within Kentucky's vast agriculture community. A list of Common Core reading comprehension questions are available to use with all content, and some articles are printable with specific questions. This is an excellent resource for research or reading activities when you have a sub. Ideal for grades 6-12.
