Visiting Instructors

With assistance from the Kentucky Livestock Coalition, Kentucky Soybean Board, and the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, TeachKyAg developed this program to assist the growing number of Kentucky classrooms in choosing food production subjects for their argument writing units. The program also provides students with a deeper understanding of livestock-based food production in their agriculture, science, environment, practical living, and FCS classrooms.

EngAGe Kentucky also provides speakers for civic and leadership groups wanting to learn more about animal-based food production and its impact on the Commonwealth.

Presentation/Lesson Topics:

  • Race Around the Barnyard - Taking care of our farm animals. (Primary program).

  • The Farm as an Ecosystem – allows students to investigate the different parts of a managed ecosystem and participate in engaging energy in an ecosystem’s food web simulation.

  • Kentucky Agriculture: Utilizing our Natural Resources to Grow the Commonwealth – students will learn how Kentucky’s resources, topography, and markets drive what is produced in our home state.

  • Food & Farm Careers – students will learn the different jobs related to food production, processing, and marketing through engaging activities. About 1 in 5 jobs is tied to food since it is a basic need. Students will also learn that there are double the number of agriculture jobs available than there are graduates to fill them.

  • NEW - Cow Burps and Confinement - A look into our livestock-based food systems and how they support agriculture and the environment.
